The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) aims to prevent the spread of invasive species which can cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.

Some examples of invasive plants include:

Golden Bamboo
Yellow Groove Bamboo
Wineberry
Porcelain Berry
Japanese Honeysuckle
Garlic Mustard
Autumn Olive

You can get help from DEC in identifying a hogweed.

You may be asked to describe the plant's:

Height
Stem color
Leaf shape
Flower color
Shape

You will also be asked to provide photos and site information.

You should avoid touching the plant. If you think you have been affected by a hogweed plant, it is recommended for you to see a physician.
