The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) installs devices for automated meter reading (AMR) of water meters throughout New York City. The devices automatically transmit water meter readings directly to DEP for more accurate billing, and will assist in ending the need for estimated bills.

If you're not home when the contractor or inspector visits, you will find a notice with instructions for scheduling a future installation. If your home hasn't been visited, you can schedule an appointment for an installation.

DEP contractors going door-to-door to provide free installation of AMR devices are in uniform and must carry and show photo I.D. cards and badges.
