The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene provides assistance for family members of mental health patients who do not follow their treatment plans and also present a high risk to themselves or others.
Each borough has Assisted Outpatient Treatment personnel available where a patient can be ordered to follow a treatment plan or be involuntarily admitted into a hospital.
